Good Evening. I'm Allison McNair. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.

As if the record-breaking storm two weeks ago wasn't enough, New Hampshire is being pounded by another nor'easter. To the north, the snow continues to pile up. And in southern sections, the temperatures were warm enough for most of the precipitation to fall as rain instead of snow. But as producer Richard Ager reports, that has created its own problems.

Rain, snow, sleet, it all added up to one big problem across New Hampshire. In a lot of places, there was nowhere for it to go. Up to four inches of rain combined with much of the remaining snowpack from recent storms to create heavy runoff. The town of Raymond, which has two rivers running through it, was the first to activate its emergency operations center, although most calls were for flooded basements.
Bite; Tape 1 12:47:02 Basically we've had localized street flooding on a number of streets in town generally caused by culverts being plugged and snow that's blocking the normal path of the water as it would leave the road.
Tape 1 13:21:36 Emergency officials say that even when the storm is over, the danger won't be. That's because it usually takes 24 hours for a river to crest after the rain has stopped.
Track: So Raymond officials will keep an eye on the Lamprey River just in case it rises too high.
Tape 1 47:45 If that happens, it cuts the town in half because it runs right through the middle of town and some of the main access roads get flooded over. But we don't expect that to happen. We've seen a lot more rain and a lot more ice build up in previous years that have caused that - and all of the factors are not in place.
Track: In Hampton, even the cheap motels were waterfront as low-lying areas throughout the town were flooded.
Bite: Tape 1 14:23:42 It's flooded in several places in town. We're coming up on the new moon and so our tides were running high this morning. We had water coming over the seawall again. It's just like one thing after another it seems like. We go from the snow to the rain and now with the ground being saturated, the water has nowhere to go and it's finding its way into places we don't want it to be.
Track: The storm is expected to continue through tonight into tomorrow morning, which will create poor driving conditions throughout the state.
Bite; Tape 1 12:029 Our usual advice is to slow down. If cars go too fast out there, they lose control and cause accidents or be in accidents. Also, put your headlights on. It increases visibility. And just the common sense approach we use on a snowstorm or rainstorm type atmosphere.
Track: For NH Outlook, I'm Richard Ager.

Weather postponed the anticipated debate and vote on two school choice bills at the statehouse today. The reason - several lawmakers' homes were flooded due to the storm. Still the house was in session and If you were curious about what was going on today - the anwer was just a click away.
Today's there was streaming audio of the house proceedings. The webcast allowed listeners to hear votes as they took place. One of those votes was in favor of establishing a contributory retirement system for judges. Judges would contribute seven-and-a-half percent of their salaries toward the pension. Judges could elect to take a smaller pension and retire before age 65. A bill legalizing medical marajuana was voted down in the house. Republican Congressman John E- Sununu says he's seriously considering a run for the U-S Senate seat now held by fellow Republican Bob Smith.
Sununu says contrary to much speculation, he will NOT run for governor next year.
A number of Republicans in Washington and New Hampshire have been urging the third-term Congressman to challenge Smith, saying it's crucial that the GOP holds on to the seat. Some have seen Smith vulnerable since he briefly left the party to run for president as an independent. Governor Jeanne Shaheen also is considered a possible candidate for the seat, although she has not publicly expressed interest in the position.

"Schoolmusic.com is an on-line.teachers."
narration This is Schoolmusic.com. Beyond the computer screen is the story of how a good idea, a lot of hard work and venture capital investors came together. Cynthia and three business partners founded the company in the fall of 1998. Their start-up costs were relatively modest -- family and local business associates started to invest in the idea.
narration But to make a go of it, Schoolmusic.com needed other people's money. That happened shortly after the on-line site was recognized as one of the top 50 in the country.
narration Typically, an angel investor provides the first round of equity financing - usually their own dollars. Venture capital investors use other people's money. In their first round, Schoolmusic.com attracted both angel as well as venture capitalists.
narration Jeff Sohl is a UNH professor who works at the Center for Venture Research. There, they provide entrepeneurs with knowledge about the investment market.
narration The company has been doing well. They secured a second round of investments and have reached quarterly sales goals. Schools from across the United States have been logging on.
narration And for venture capitalists, those are sweet sounds to hear.

The New Hampshire Main Street Center program helps towns and cities preserve and revitalize their historic downtown business districts.
The non profit state-wide agency assists communities with everything from fund-raising and marketing, to how to adapt old buildings for new uses.
Today in Dover, the organization celebrated the fact that - in the last year - about six million dollars was pumped into more than 200 projects, resulting in the creation of 56 new businesses and 215 new jobs throughout the fifteen communities involved in the program.
